Two who saw combat, one was injured during training and was discharged with a disability. God knows where they are if any have survived. I envy you. I'm using secondary sources and primary gov documents to reconstruct my ancestors experiences. Got me thinking of some of those day to day details.<br /><br />I wish I had some family letters from that era, too. Don't assume they are not in existence now, though. One of my readers commented on one of my Civil War posts that he had found an envelope from my ancestor online in a philatelic website. Sure enough, it was written by my great-great grandfather to his mother while he was serving in the cavalry. Too bad the letter wasn't inside...but in some cases, those envelopes do include the letters. You never know what may be found online, even if your own family no longer possesses those letters!<br /><br />I found your blog today, thanks to GeneaBloggers.
